The subject property is located on South Eisenman Rd, on the southwest corner of Warehouse Way and Freight Street near the WinCo Distribution Center in southeast Boise..
The City of Boise purchased the property for $20 million to develop the city’s first recycled water facility, and produce a new, drought-proof water supply.
Recycling water will create a new water supply for Boise by purifying used water from business and industry and using it again, making Boise even better prepared to meet future challenges such as drought, climate change, and growth. The city is looking to use highly treated water for two purposes: industrial reuse and aquifer recharge.
“This purchase is an investment in our community’s water resiliency,” says Haley Falconer, Environmental Manager for the City of Boise. “Every gallon of water we keep for local reuse is a gallon of drinking water we preserve. This is a forward-thinking decision that I know we’ll look back on and be glad the city had the foresight to make.”
Water purification technologies are currently being tested at the city’s Advanced Water Treatment Pilot. The city expects to break ground on the new facility in 2025 and begin full-scale water recycling operations in 2029.
